1. List Placements

1.1. Definition

  • A (max) mode is any night/bonus night in a FNaF inspired/fangame that is set to its max difficulty (With some liberty on unlocked modes).

1.2. Mode Eligibility

  • Modes that don’t give an in game reward can still be ranked.
  • Any mode that has a paywall, and isn't officially licenced or part of fanverse, is generally not placeable.
  • No gooner games allowed.
  • If the game is too dysfunctional, it will not be placed.
  • Low effort and low skill modes created for the sole purpose of having high RNG will not be placed.
  • Developers adding only RNG to an already existing mode will not make it different enough to place.
  • Modes created to place at the very bottom of the list will not be placed.
  • “Gauntlet” modes will only be placed if created by the original developer.
  • Modes made specifically to abuse loopholes in the rules will not be placed.

1.3. Ranking Guidelines

  • A mode must have been beaten by at least one person with video proof. The video must be permanent and viewable by anyone with the link.
  • Any and all modes are subject to changes in placement, name, and statistics at any time pending staff discussion.
  • ALL max modes from any base game, mod, or buff mod* are eligible for placement so long as they contain unique mechanics or vary in difficulty enough from similar games.
  • The following categories are eligible for separate placement under the above conditions:
    • The “Base Max Mode”
    • The Base Max Mode with any difficulty modifier (hard/easy/hyper) activated. These modifiers will be considered separate from any other challenges.
    • Any bonus modes which differ from typical gameplay (ex. “Hasta La Pasta”).
    • The Eternal or “hardest hour all night” variant of a mode.
    • The above categories with the highest verified combination of additional in-game challenges.
    • The above categories done with one self imposed challenge.
    • The above categories done with the hardest combined self imposed challenges.
    • Prepatches of the above categories.
    • Higher uncapped AI of the above categories.

1.3.1. Ranking Notes

  • In-game cheats, such as infinite oxygen in SLSCN, are not allowed for completions. However, powerups, such as extra coins in 50/20, are allowed.
  • The placement eligibility of low quality bonus modes with borderline non-FNaF mechanics is subject to staff discussion.
  • If the main difficulty mechanic of a mode is not a FNaF mechanic, adding bare minimum FNaF mechanics on the side will not get it placed.
  • If a self imposed challenge or the ability to revert to “pre-patch” mode is added to the current version of a game, they will no longer be considered self imposed or prepatches. Reverting this change to replace the modes will count as abusing a loophole.
  • Hardware based self imposed challenges or modifiers will not place.
  • Achievements will place as their own mode rather than a self imposed challenge if they are related to the hardest max mode or the Eternal mode if it is more difficult.
  • No exploits is a valid self imposed challenge. Upon verification, it will remove any other exploit-restricting self imposed challenge for the mode.
  • Modes that do not require any user input will not be placed.
  • "Hardest Combination" rules do not apply to uncapped AI modes. Lower AI modes with an easier combination of challenges compared to higher AI will not place (Ex. HGFAC being verified 23 AI would remove HGF long nights 22 AI).
  • Uncapped AI will not place for modes that are simply slower versions of another mode.
  • AI must be raised equally for every character. If at any point a character breaks or becomes entirely impossible, this character can be left at the highest possible/unbroken AI level with the rest increasing equally as usual.
  • Lower uncapped AI and self imposed challenges on modes with uncapped AI will be removed after 1 month if a higher level is verified.
  • *Modes from buff mods, or mods of mods that simply make characters faster without changing mechanics, will be compared to already placed modes from buff mods. Modes from buff mods that are easier than the already placed modes from buff mods will not be placed.

1.4. Multiplayer, VR Games, and Ports

  • Multiplayer games will be allowed if they are able to be beaten in singleplayer.
  • Free roam games will not be ranked unless you’re confined to a small space (example: “Scavenger Hunt”).
  • VR Games are allowed on the list if they have a flat mode.
  • Ports of modes will not be ranked separately.
  • Placement will be based on the PC version of the mode.

1.5. Mode Replacement and Removal

  • If a new update comes out for a game/mode that drastically changes the way the game is played, ALL previous records will be wiped, and new records will be implemented. This will also make the older version a placeable prepatch.
  • Games will not be removed from the list unless they become completely unavailable.

2. Submission Forms

2.1. "Request Changes" Discord Forum Guidelines

  • Here you may request changes, such as, but not limited to: a mode to be added/removed from the list, or a fix to the site.
  • No troll requests.
  • Proof must be provided for any verifications or changes to site records.

2.2. "Placement Opinions" Discord Forum Guidelines

  • If you are moving a mode, compare it to a mode you have beaten or significant progress on.

2.3. "Skillset Additions" Discord Forum Guidelines

  • Request the change or addition of skillsets here.

2.4. "Verification Board" Discord Forum Guidelines

  • Post any unverified mode or self imposed challenge here.

2.5. "Guide Submissions" Discord Forum Guidelines

  • Post any guides you have created here. A staff will review them and move them to "Official Guides" upon approval.

3. Records and Eligibility

3.1. Video Content

  • The entire duration of a submission from the starting frame of the mode to the win screen must be captured on video (audio included), not just a few seconds or half the run.
  • Any external client, hack, speed hack, altered MFA, or unapproved build of an existing game, and/or plug-in that affects the gameplay in such a way that it differs even slightly from the original product is not allowed.
  • Splicing, heavily editing a completion, stealing someone else’s completion, distorting or removing the audio, and cutting the video are not allowed.
  • We typically consider a mode beaten when the win screen is triggered or the time listed on the AML website is reached.
  • A visible cursor is required in all PC completions. Any records submitted on console or mobile are exempt from this requirement.
  • Failure to follow these criteria may result in the removal of records or a blacklist.
  • Records for harder modes may be accepted for easier modes if the mechanics and gameplay are similar enough.

3.2. Eligibility of Tools

  • Using a timer app such as LiveSplit, is allowed and encouraged to help for certain interval based modes.
  • Please use the version of the game listed on the AML website. If you are using anything other than the version listed, you should get approval from list staff before submitting your completion.
  • QOL mods are allowed as long as they do not impact gameplay in any way (ex. reducing load times).
  • In your submission, you must disclose if you use any external application or modify your game.

3.3. Blacklists

  • Severe rule breaks, such as modifying a game, using external tools/cheats, or submitting falsified/stolen records to the site are punishable by blacklist. All records completed prior to the blacklist may be ineligible for submission, and any new completions will be rejected until the blacklist expires. Punishment may also be discussed on a case by case basis.
  • Trolling in threads or lying about opinions/progress may result in an opinion blacklist. Those with an opinion blacklist will no longer be able to contribute to the placement of modes.
  • Anyone suspected of breaking rules may be subject to blacklist until conditions set by staff are met.

3.4. Framerate Guidelines

  • A recording must be taken at 60 FPS to be valid. If your recording is at 30 FPS, we may ask you to determine the FPS you were playing at during your submission.
    • Explanation: Due to some old games not using what's known as "delta time", the actions the programming takes are either partially or fully dependent on framerate, although if the game is delta timed, this doesn't apply.

3.5. General Guidelines

  • Please don't harrass staff to verify your run. Our staff have lives outside of reviewing completions.
  • Some decisions are made based on the discretion of staff. You are allowed to discuss these decisions, but please be respectful and accept any final decision.
  • Any other questions can be answered in the Discord server.
